Ms. ANGELA NANKABIRA

Angela Nankabirwa is a Research Officer in Algae Science/ Limnology at the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Angela’s research interests centre on freshwater algal ecology and diversity under different trophic environments, and their consequences for fish production. She is spear heading this project, in the search for algae species that can be utilised for cleaning industrial effluent that end up into our water bodies.

Dr. WILLIAM OKELLO

Dr. William Okello is a Senior Research Officer and head of Limnology unit at the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Dr. Okello’s research interests centre on water quality and algal toxins in different trophic environments.

Dr. JOHN ADRIKO

Dr. John Adriko is a Senior Research Officer and head of the bio-technology center at the National Agricultural Research Laboratories (NARL) of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Dr. Adriko’s research areas and interests are in Plant Pathology, Biotechnology of Medicinal Plants as well as their Molecular characterization. In this project Dr. Adriko will identify and characterise the genes specific to the algae species with potential to clean industrial effluent.

Mr. MARK OLOKOTUM

Mark Olokotum is a Research Officer at the National Fisheries Resources Research Insititute of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Mark is a fish biologist/stock assessment scientist whose role in this project is to guide on the interractions between pollution and algal blooms, and their consequences for fish productivity and production.

Ms. ROSE BASOOMA

Rose Basooma is a Research Assistant at National Fisheries Resources Research Insititute of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. She is interested in remote sensing, GIS and sedimentology in aquatic systems. Rose's role in this project is to provide technical support in Mapping of Algal bloom hotspots on Lake Victoria.

Ms. EMILY ARAYO

Emily Arayo is the Development Communications Officer at National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Emily is interested in documenting stories of change with a multi-media perspective. Her role in this project is to package, disseminate and collate feedback from stakeholders interacting with the project.

Ms. AGNES NABUUFU

Ms Agnes Nabuufu is the I.T Technician at National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) of National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. Agnes' interests center on computer programming and cyber security. Her role in the project is to design, mantain and manage the algal bloom database and website.

Mr. ISAAC AKOIT

Mr. Isaac Akoit is the Quality Control Officer at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Jinja. Isaac's role in the project is to characterise wastewater and provide experimental designs for testing the cleaning potential of algae species.
